How to Apply for a Zambia Visa in Chicago
Chicago is America’s third-most-populous city and its metropolitan area, known as Chicagoland, has a population approaching 10 million people. Chicago is a vibrant international city with a robust economy that is the corporate headquarters for 57 Fortune 1000 companies. While manufacturing and food processing provide a strong foundation for its economy, the city is also an important financial center and is home to the Chicago Stock Exchange, Chicago Board Options Exchange, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The Chicago metropolitan area covers 14 counties across three states—Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin—and includes cities like Aurora, Naperville, Joliet, Elgin, Waukegan, Cicero, Skokie, Gary (Indiana), and Kenosha (Wisconsin). Chicago has a growing population of immigrants from Africa, including those from Zambia. There are a few hundred Zambians in the Chicago area and they have a nonprofit organization—the Zambian Heritage Association of Chicago—that promotes their homeland’s culture and heritage. For any American people interested in trying Zambian cuisine, the city or Urbana (two hours by car from Chicago) has one of the few Zambian restaurants in the country where diners can enjoy foods such as nshima, gizdodo, goat meat, and various stews.
Zambia is a country located in southern African and shares a border with eight other nations. There are 18.3 million people living in Zambia and their population is composed of 73 ethnic groups. Additionally, there are minority groups of Chinese, Indians, White Zambians, and nearly 100,000 refugees from other African countries. Although there are dozens of tribal languages spoken throughout Zambia, English is the official language due to the country's former days as a British protectorate. Lusaka is the nation’s capital and is also the commercial center of the country. Most visitors from Chicago traveling to Zambia will arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, located 16 miles from Lusaka’s business district. Lusaka has plenty of quality restaurants and international hotel chains to make visitors feel comfortable. Just three hours away from Lusaka is the town of Siavonga and Lake Kariba, which is a great destination to relax and enjoy the scenery. Zambia has some of Africa’s best wildlife preserves and national parks such as North Luanga, South Luanga, Kafue, Liuwa, and the Lower Zambezi National Park. Of course, no visit to Zambia is complete without an overnight stay in the town of Livingston and an excursion to nearby Victoria Falls, which is the largest waterfall in the world.
