How to Apply for a Liberia Visa in Tampa

The city of Tampa, located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, is one of the three principal cities (the other two being St. Petersburg and Clearwater) that make up the Tampa Bay Area.  The Tampa Bay Area is the 18th-largest metropolis in the United States and has a population of 3.1 million people.  The metro area includes the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Citrus, and Manatee, along with the towns of Brandon, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Largo, Tarpon Springs, and Bradenton.  Although not officially part of the Tampa Bay Area, nearby Sarasota is a popular destination for international visitors thanks to the area’s beautiful beaches.  The Tampa Bay Area does not have a large population of Liberian immigrants, however, more West Africans will find their way to this part of the country as the Florida economy continues to expand and demand for more healthcare providers and other service workers grows.

Liberia is a West African country of over 5 million people that borders Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Ivory Coast.  Monrovia is the country’s political capital and most populous city.  Visitors to Liberia fly into Roberts International Airport, which has a modern passenger terminal and will soon have a new cargo terminal.  Liberia’s economy relies on the exportation of minerals and agricultural commodities along with overseas remittances from the one million Liberians living abroad.  Although doing business in Liberia is not easy, there are plenty of business opportunities here!  The Liberian economy is a blank slate that is ready for Tampa-area investors to bring their skills and know-how to help develop the country’s tourism and hospitality sector.  Liberia is gaining in popularity as a tourist destination for heritage tours as more Americans want to understand their ancestral culture and history.  Liberia has serene beach resorts and wildlife sanctuaries around the town of Marshall, just a short drive from the airport.

It is important to review the requirements for visas on the Liberian consulate website and ensure your application and all supporting documents are accurate.  Here is the link to the consulate website: Visas – Liberian Consulate in Georgia (liberianconsulatega.com).  You will also include a self-addressed USPS return envelope (US Postal Service Express Mail or Priority Mail) or FedEx envelope with a prepaid airbill along with a money order made payable to “Liberian Consulate GA” to pay the visa fee.  The visa fee for U.S. citizens is $160 and the processing time will take about 2 weeks.  If you need the visa faster, there is an option to pay an additional $75 to have the visa processed the same day or next day for an additional $50 (application materials must be received before 12 pm).

You can also visit the consulate office in downtown Atlanta in person, however, you must schedule an appointment by calling 404-565-1154.  The office is only available for in-person visits on Tuesday or Thursday, from 11 am – 3 pm.  Visitors from Tampa flying to Atlanta can take MARTA (the local train service) from the airport and get off at Peachtree Center Station—the Liberian Consulate is just 2 blocks away from the station.  Or you can make the 8-hour drive to downtown Atlanta from Tampa on Interstate 75 traveling north.
