How to Apply for a Liberia Visa in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is the largest city in the state of Nevada and is located in the Mojave Desert, sandwiched between California and Arizona. The Las Vegas metropolitan area, known as the Las Vegas Valley, includes Clark County and the cities of North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City, as well as several other unincorporated communities and neighborhoods. The Las Vegas Valley has a population of 2.3 million people and has been America’s fastest growing city the past decade. Although Las Vegas ranks only as the 28th-most populous city in the United States, there could be as many as 300,000 tourists visiting the city on any given day. Las Vegas is known as “America’s Playground” and is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting over 42 million visitors a year. The popularity of Las Vegas as a tourist destination has also turned the area into a magnet for immigrants due to the abundance of service and construction jobs, however, the Liberian immigrant population is small—just a handful of refugees settled here after Liberia’s civil wars. Africans represent less than 2% of the Las Vegas Valley’s foreign-born population and are composed mostly of immigrants from Ethiopia.
Liberia is a West African country of over 5 million people made up of 17 indigenous ethnic groups speaking over 20 languages, but English is the official language. Visitors to Liberia fly into Roberts International Airport, which has a modern passenger terminal and will soon have a new cargo terminal that will support the country’s ability to export high-value, perishable agricultural products to international markets. Liberia’s economy relies on the exportation of minerals and agricultural commodities like gold, iron ore, and rubber (American company Firestone has a rubber plantation in the town of Harbel that spans 119,000 acres). Overseas remittances from the one million Liberians living abroad in cities like Las Vegas are also an important source of hard currency. While nonprofit organizations and US government agencies like USAID contribute to the development of the country, Liberia’s economy will get a boost as more American entrepreneurs and private investors enter the market to invest in the food processing, tourism, and real estate sectors. On the tourism front, Liberia is gaining in popularity for heritage tours as more Americans want to understand their ancestral culture and history. Americans also enjoy Liberia’s beautiful beach resorts and natural environment.
