How to Apply for a Zambia Visa in Boston
Greater Boston is the eleventh-most populous metropolitan area in the United States with a population of 4.9 million people, and includes towns such as Cambridge, Brookline, Quincy, Brockton, Lynn, Newton, Waltham, and Medford. Boston is one of America’s oldest cities and has a rich history that attracts over 20 million tourists each year. Known as the “intellectual capital of the United States”, Boston is a center of education that has more than 350,000 college students from around the world, including international students from Zambia. Boston University has one of the oldest and largest African Studies programs in the country and the African Language Program at Harvard offers training in dozens of languages including Bemba, an indigenous language spoken in Zambia. Although the population of Zambians in the Boston area is small, the community is large enough to form its own organization called the Zambia Association of New England, which hosts annuals events and celebrations. As one of America’s leading cities for medical research and academia, Boston has several hospitals and universities that provide education and healthcare services to the people of Zambia. Boston is also home to organizations like MIT D-Lab that send engineers to Zambia to tackle poverty challenges.
Zambia is a landlocked country located in southern African that is four times the size of the New England region and is bordered by eight other African nations. Although there are dozens of tribal languages spoken throughout Zambia, English is the official language due to the country's former days as a British protectorate known as Northern Rhodesia. Lusaka is the nation’s capital and is also the commercial center of the country. Most visitors from Boston traveling to Zambia will arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, located 16 miles from Lusaka’s business district. Lusaka has plenty of quality restaurants and hotels to make visitors feel comfortable. Just three hours away from Lusaka is the town of Siavonga and Lake Kariba, which is a great destination to relax and enjoy the scenery. Zambia has some of Africa’s best wildlife preserves and national parks such as North Luanga, South Luanga, Kafue, Liuwa, and the Lower Zambezi National Park. Of course, no visit to Zambia is complete without a stop in the town of Livingston and nearby Victoria Falls, which is the largest waterfall in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Livingston there are several tour operators that offer white water rafting, kayaking, boat cruises, horseback riding, and flights over Victoria Falls.
