How to Apply for a Sierra Leone Visa in Denver
Denver is the capital of Colorado and is one of the fastest growing cities in America. The Denver Metropolitan area is the 19th most populous metro area in the U.S. and has a population approaching three million people. The region’s growing and diverse economy—along with its proximity to Rocky Mountain ski resorts—make Denver an attractive destination for people seeking a more active and balanced lifestyle. Denver has a diverse economy and strong foundation of Fortune 500 companies operating in various industries such as healthcare, financial services, media, apparel, electronics, mining, aerospace, energy, and food and beverage. The Denver Metropolitan area includes the towns of Arvada, Aurora, Castle Rock, Centennial, Lakewood, Littleton, Thornton, and Westminster. There are a few thousand West African immigrants from Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Senegal living in Denver, but the Sierra Leonean population remains small. Denver has several nonprofit organizations and faith-based organizations doing work throughout West Africa and the city is also home to the Africa Center at the University of Denver. Denverites wanting to learn more about Sierra Leone and establish a network of contacts before their trip to the country can use these local resources to their advantage.
Sierra Leone is a West African country of 7.1 million people that sits along 300 miles of Atlantic Ocean coastline and is about one-fourth the size of Colorado by land area. English is Sierra Leone’s official language, but Krio is the national language spoken on the streets of Freetown—the nation's capital and largest city with over one million residents. Sierra Leone is composed of several ethnic groups including Mende, Temne, Limba, Kono, Mandingo, Krio, and others. This is a poor country whose economy depends on mining and agriculture, but it is also a country of rich fertile land with untapped opportunity. Despite the abundance of land, Sierra Leone still imports 80% of its food, creating opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs in Denver to develop its agricultural sector. Sierra Leone is also well known to Colorado companies engaged in the mining business, since the country has an abundance of minerals including diamonds, gold, and iron ore. On the tourist front, Sierra Leone is emerging as a popular destination as more Americans gain interest in learning about their ancestral heritage and discover their connection to the country through DNA tests. Sierra Leone also has abundant natural beauty that includes white-sand beaches, scenic mountains, and a tropical forest.
