How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in San Francisco
San Francisco, known as the “City by the Bay”, is one of America’s most famous and beautiful cities. Located in Northern California, San Francisco is just one of the many cities that together make up the San Francisco Bay Area, or Bay Area for short. The 14-county combined statistical area (that comprises the Bay Area) has nearly 10 million people, making it the fifth-most populous region in the United States. The Bay Area includes cities such as Oakland, Hayward, Berkeley, Vallejo, Concord, Pleasanton, Fremont, San Jose, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Sausalito, and San Rafael. The economy of the Bay Area is one of the most vigorous and entrepreneurial on the planet. Silicon Valley (in the southern part of the Bay Area) has attracted engineers from all over the world, including those from Ghana and other countries in West Africa who have started their own technology companies. The Bay Area is one of the best places in America to learn about other cultures because it has so many great community centers and cultural organizations. For instance, the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts has courses offering West African drumming, music, and dance taught by accomplished artists and instructors from Ghana. The Bay Area is home to an estimated 1,500 Ghanaian immigrants.
Ghana is a West African nation of 31 million people made up of 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages. The country has a proud history and rich culture that is one of the most influential in Africa. After decades as a British colony, Ghana became the first country in Africa to gain independence in 1957, inspiring leaders not only across the African continent, but also those in the U.S. such as Martin Luther King, Jr. (King visited Ghana in 1957 and was there to witness the birth of this new nation). A half century later, Americans are still traveling to Ghana and drawing inspiration from its people and culture. San Francisco Bay Area tourists will enjoy visiting sites such as Cape Coast Castle, Independence Square, and the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre as part of their educational journey, but there are also plenty of ways to experience modern-day Ghana and interact with locals by visiting Labadi Beach, Makola Market, or one of the many bars and restaurants along Oxford Street in Accra, the nation’s capital and most-populous city. Other Bay Area visitors might visit Ghana to explore the country’s boundless business opportunities. Ghana is the fastest growing economy in the world and has a vibrant information technology community that comes together each year for the Ghana Tech Summit in Accra.
