How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in Denver

Denver, known as the “Mile High City” because of its elevation of 5,280 feet, is the capital of Colorado and is one of the fastest growing cities in America.  The Denver Metropolitan area is the 19th most populous metro area in the U.S. and has a population approaching three million people.  The region’s growing and diverse economy—along with its proximity to Rocky Mountain ski resorts—make Denver an attractive destination for people seeking a more active and balanced lifestyle.  Denver has a diverse economy and strong foundation of Fortune 500 companies operating in various industries such as healthcare, financial services, media, apparel, electronics, mining, aerospace, energy, and food and beverage.  The Denver Metropolitan area includes the towns of Arvada, Aurora, Castle Rock, Centennial, Lakewood, Littleton, Thornton, and Westminster.  An estimated 12% of Denver’s population is made up of immigrants and an even higher percentage form the city’s labor force, at 14%.  A few thousand of these immigrants come from Ghana, a country in West Africa with deep historic and cultural ties to the U.S.  Ghanaians in Denver are a tight-knit community and maintain social connections through their various church groups and social organizations sprinkled throughout the city.

Ghana is a nation of 31 million people made up of 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages.  The country has a proud history and rich culture that is one of the most influential in Africa.  After decades as a British colony, Ghana became the first country in Africa to gain independence in 1957, inspiring leaders not only across the African continent, but also those in the United States such as Martin Luther King, Jr. (King visited Ghana in 1957 and was there to witness the birth of this new nation).  A half century later, Americans are still traveling to Ghana and drawing inspiration from its people and culture.  Tourists visit historical attractions such as Cape Coast Castle, Osu Castle, Independence Square, and the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre as part of their educational journey, but there are also plenty of ways to experience modern-day Ghana and interact with locals by visiting Labadi Beach, Makola Market, or one of the many bars and restaurants along Oxford Street in Accra.  Ghana is also a country whose economy is on the rise and the business landscape is becoming even more promising with The Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) recently going into effect.  Denver-based entrepreneurs dealing in energy, financial services, and foods will find boundless opportunities in Ghana.
