How to Apply for an Egypt Visa in Miami

The Greater Miami Area is the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the United States and has a population of 6.2 million people.  The metropolitan area is composed of Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County.  Its main cities include Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Hialeah, Coral Gables, Miami Gardens, Miramar, Homestead, Davie, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, and Boca Raton.  This is a diverse community where 40% of the population was born in another country, and it is one of America’s most important cities for international trade.  Miami is a business hub for the Latin American region and is often thought of as the unofficial “Capital of Latin America”.  Miami and the state of Florida also have a growing number Arabs and Arab-Americans, which includes immigrants with Egyptian heritage.  Often relocating from other parts of the United States, they are drawn to the area’s warm weather and booming economy that makes this a paradise for owners of small businesses dealing in food services, retail, and construction.  Miami and the South Florida region have a population of a few thousand Egyptians and nearly 50,000 immigrants from countries like Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestinian Territories.

Egypt is a Middle Eastern country with over 100 million people located in North Africa and is connected to the southwest corner of Asia by way of the Sinai Peninsula.  Due to its geographical location straddling these two continents, Egypt has always been an important center of civilization, culture, geopolitics, and trade.  About 12% of global trade passes through the Suez Canal, a waterway that connects maritime traffic from Europe to Asia.  Egypt is a focal point of culture for the Arab World and has rich traditions of art and media that includes music, film, television, and literature.  Egypt has one of the oldest civilizations in the world and is well known for its archaeological sites and religious traditions that include Islamic, Jewish, and Christian historical sites.  Visitors traveling from Cairo by car through the mountains of South Sinai to Nuweiba will feel the Bible come to life as they drive through steep mountain passes and arrive to the shores of the Red Sea, closing their eyes to contemplate the crossing led by Moses in the Book of Exodus.  This is a land packed with incredible history and bucket list sites like the Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel, Karnak Temple, and The Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx.  But this is also a country on the rise and cities like Cairo and Alexandria are brimming with energy.

Obtaining an Egypt Visa from Miami

Visas for Egypt are issued by the Egyptian government in the United States.  The government of Egypt is represented by their embassy located in Washington, D.C. along with four consulates located in New York, Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles.  Visitors to Egypt can also apply for an electronic visa before their departure, or they can obtain a visa on arrival at Egyptian airports.  If you live in Miami and want to get the traditional visa sticker in your passport, you will fill out the visa application and ship your original passport and supporting documents to the embassy in Washington, D.C. by US Mail or courier service using FedEx or UPS.  Here is their address:

Consulate of the Arab Republic of Egypt
3521 International Court, NW
Washington, D.C. 20008

When mailing in your documents to the embassy, you should include a self-addressed USPS (US Postal Service Express Mail or Priority Mail), FedEx, or UPS prepaid envelope so the consulate can return your passport and visa to your home or office.

It is important to review the requirements for visas on the Egypt embassy website and ensure your application and all supporting documents are accurate.  Here is the link to the consulate website with detailed information: Visa Requirements – Embassy of Egypt, Washington DC (egyptembassy.net)

Other things to consider:

  • All Americans require a visa to enter Egypt.
  • The embassy only accepts cashier’s checks made payable to the Consulate of Egypt and they do not accept money orders or personal checks.
  • Visas submitted to the embassy can take up to three weeks for processing so please plan accordingly.
  • As an alternative to the traditional visa sticker issued by the embassy, residents of Miami have the option to apply for the Egypt electronic visa using this website: https://www.visa2egypt.gov.eg/
  • It is recommended to purchase travel insurance before any international trip in case of medical emergencies.  We advise getting the Geo Blue Voyager Single Trip Plan.
