How to Apply for a Togo Visa in Charlotte
Charlotte is the 23rd-most populous city in the United States and is the most populous city in the state of North Carolina. Known as the Queen City, this metropolis of 2.6 million people has been one of the country’s fastest-growing cities the past two decades. Charlotte’s youthful population, low cost of living, and geograph location in America’s Sun Belt, have made it an attractive destination for business investment. The Charlotte metropolitan area is a sixteen-county region that stretches into the state of South Carolina and includes the towns of Concord, Gastonia, Huntersville, Kannapolis, Indian Trail, Mooresville, Monroe, Salisbury, Matthews, Statesville, Rock Hill (SC), and Fort Mill (SC). Charlotte has connections to Togo due to the handful of churches and humanitarian groups doing work in the country. About half of Togo’s population is Christian, many of whom are Roman Catholic on account of this country’s history as a former colony of Germany and France. French is the official language of Togo, but the main indigenous languages are Ewe, spoken in the south, and Kabiye, spoken in the north. The population of Togolese immigrants in Charlotte is small but the city is home to community organizations such as the Ewe Association of Charlotte and Togolese of Charlotte.
Togo is a small African nation that is less than half the size of North Carolina. The country is located along the Gulf of Guinea and is bordered by Ghana, Benin, and Burkina Faso. Its most populous city and political capital, Lomé, has a population of nearly 2 million people and is also the commercial center of the country. Lomé will be the entry point for most visitors, either through its international airport or its land border with Ghana. This city has several excellent restaurants offering Togolese and French cuisine. There are also bars and hotels along the beach, such as Marcelo Beach Club, that provide an idyllic place to relax and enjoy the scenery. No visit to Lomé is complete without visiting The Grand Marché, an outdoor market where tourists can mix it up with the local people while shopping for Togolese arts and crafts. Others wanting to take a deeper dive into local culture can learn about Vodun (Voodoo) at the Akodessawa Fetish Market. Just outside of Lomé is Lake Togo and the lakeside town of Togoville, which has recreation areas and attractions such as Notre Dame de Togoville (visited by Pope John Paul II in 1985) and Maison de Esclaves. More adventurous travelers can hire a driver to visit Kara and the traditional mud huts of Koutammakou (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
