How to Apply for a Japan Visa in Charlotte

UPDATED September 21, 2022 (Please see message below regarding COVID-19 Restrictions)

Charlotte is the 23rd-most populous city in the United States and is the most populous city in the state of North Carolina.  The Charlotte metropolitan area is a sixteen-county region that stretches into the state of South Carolina and includes the towns of Concord, Gastonia, Huntersville, Kannapolis, Indian Trail, Mooresville, Monroe, Salisbury, Matthews, Statesville, Rock Hill (SC), and Fort Mill (SC).  Known as the Queen City, this metropolis of 2.6 million people has been one of the country’s fastest-growing cities the past two decades.  Charlotte’s youthful population, low cost of living, and geographic location in America’s Sun Belt, have made it an attractive destination for business investment.  The Interstate 85 corridor stretching from Atlanta to Charlotte has attracted investment from industrial companies from all over the world, including those from Japan.  The state of North Carolina has nearly 300 Japanese-affiliated firms and employs thousands of Americans.  There are about 1,000 Japanese living in the Charlotte area and the city is home to the Japanese Association in Charlotte, an organization that hosts annual events such as the Bon Odori Festival.   The city is also home to the Japanese Language School in Charlotte and UNC Charlotte offers a bachelor’s degree in Japanese Studies.

Japan is a country in East Asia composed of four main islands located in the northwest Pacific Ocean east of China, the Korean Peninsula and Russia’s Far East.  Japan, known as the Land of the Rising Sun, is one of the most advanced nations in the world and its citizens enjoy the longest life expectancy on the planet due to their healthy diet, pristine natural environment, and low crime rates.  Despite the high quality of life and social harmony found throughout this island nation of 125 million residents, Japan is also known for its high-intensity work environment and fast-paced economy, which is the third largest in the world.  First-time visitors to Tokyo who take the train ride from the airport to Shinjuku station—the busiest train station in the world—will feel the rush of humanity when the train doors open and they set foot into the streets of the city’s lively business, entertainment, and shopping district.  Tokyo is a feast for the eyes and tourists from Charlotte will love the bright lights and energy of this city, not to mention the peculiarities and strangeness of being in a new land with a unique culture.  Japanese cities such as Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Sapporo are also must-visit destinations that are easily accessible by the country’s high-speed train network, known as Shinkansen.
