How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in Tampa

The city of Tampa, located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, is one of the three principal cities (the other two being St. Petersburg and Clearwater) that make up the Tampa Bay Area.  The Tampa Bay Area is the 18th-largest metropolis in the United States and has a population of 3.1 million people.  The metro area includes the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Citrus, and Manatee, along with the towns of Brandon, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Largo, Tarpon Springs, and Bradenton.  Although not officially part of the Tampa Bay Area, nearby Sarasota is a popular destination for international visitors thanks to the area’s beautiful beaches.  The Ghanaian immigrant population in Tampa is small but it is home to the Ghanaian Association of Tampa Bay, an organization that hosts cultural events and provides services to its community.  The city of Tampa has strong connections to Ghana through University of South Florida (USF), which not only has international students from Ghana, but also sends American students to Ghana for various study abroad programs and research assignments through its partnerships with the University of Ghana and Cape Coast University.  The University of Tampa also has study abroad programs in Ghana and professors with knowledge of the region.

Ghana is a West African nation of 31 million people that has over 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages, including English, the country’s official language.  Ghana has a proud history and rich culture that is one of the most influential in Africa.  Led by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and icon of the Pan-Africanism Movement, this was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence during the era of European colonialism.  The ideals of the Pan-Africanism Movement are manifested today by the growing number of American tourists traveling to Ghana from cities like Tampa to learn more about their cultural heritage and history.  Ghana has extended the welcome mat to Americans and others around the world in the Black Diaspora through their “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return” campaigns.  These campaigns not only strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two great nations, but also bolster economic ties.  There are several ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in Ghana such as the Petronia City Project, Accra Marine Drive Tourism Project, Ghana Hospitals Project, and expansion of Kumasi Airport.  These mega projects are all great opportunities for Tampa construction businesses (that have the resources and skillset) to contribute to Ghana's growth.
