How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in Dallas
The city of Dallas and the surrounding metropolitan area is the most populous metropolis in the southern United States and fourth-most populous in the country. The Dallas metropolitan area—known as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, or DFW by local residents—has a population of 7.6 million people and includes the cities of Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Irving, Garland, Richardson, Frisco, Mesquite, Denton, Grand Prairie, and McKinney. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, located in North Texas, is one of the fastest growing regions in the country thanks to its low cost of living, low taxes, abundance of resources, and ease of doing business. Dallas has the second-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the United States and there is a long list of corporations that have been relocating to the area from other parts of the country. Dallas has a growing population of immigrants, which includes an increasing number of Ghanaian immigrants that use their professional experience, high academic attainment levels, and commitment to hard work to achieve success in America. There are now several thousand immigrants from Ghana living in DFW and the community now has its own GhanaFest, an annual festival celebrating Ghanaian culture, food, and music.
Ghana is a West African nation of 31 million people that has over 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages. The country has 335 miles of beautiful coastline along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean. This region, known as the Gold Coast, was home to several empires for centuries (led by the Kingdom of Ashanti) before foreign powers began battling for dominance during the era of European colonization. Ghana was one of the few African states that actively resisted colonization during the 1700s and 1800s, fighting for more than a century against Great Britain’s effort to control the country. Finally, after decades as a British colony, Ghana became the first country in Africa to gain full political and economic independence in 1957. Tourists from Dallas can learn more about some of this history by visiting sites such as Independence Square, Cape Coast Castle, the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre, and the Manhiya Palace Museum (in Kumasi). Others will enjoy the natural attractions of Ghana such as the rainforests of Kakum National Park, the savannahs of Mole National Park, Wli Waterfalls, and beautiful beaches in the Western Region. The Western Region is also home to Ghana’s oil and gas industry, a growing sector of the economy that has strong ties to Texas through Dallas-based Kosmos Energy.
