How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in Boston
Boston is one of America’s oldest cities and has a rich history that attracts over 20 million tourists each year. Known as the “intellectual capital of the United States”, Boston is a center of education that has more than 350,000 college students from around the world, making up over 7% of the metro area’s population. Boston University has one of the oldest and largest African Studies programs in the country and offers courses in eight indigenous African languages, including Twi, one of the languages spoken in Ghana. The African Language Program at Harvard also offers Twi language courses. Greater Boston is the eleventh-most populous metropolitan area in the United States with a population of 4.9 million people, and includes towns such as Cambridge, Brookline, Quincy, Brockton, Lynn, Newton, Waltham, and Medford. Although not officially part of Greater Boston, the city of Worcester (an hour outside of Boston) has one on the largest Ghanaian immigrant communities in the United States. In fact, Worcester has nearly 40,000 immigrants from Ghana, making this one of the largest Ghanaian communities outside of Ghana. The current president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has visited this city on two different occasions.
Ghana is a West African nation of 31 million people that has over 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages. The country has 335 miles of coastline along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, and shares a border with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Togo. Ghana has a proud history and rich culture that is one of the most influential on the African continent. Led by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and icon of the Pan-Africanism Movement, this was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain full economic and political independence during the era of European colonialism. Boston tourists will enjoy visiting sites such as Cape Coast Castle, Independence Square, and the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre to learn about the history of Ghana. Others will enjoy the natural attractions of Ghana such as Kakum National Park, Mole National Park, Wli Waterfalls, and the numerous beautiful beaches in the Western Region. On the business front, Ghana’s economy has been on a tear in recent years and it will continue to grow with the advent of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), making Africa the largest free-trade area in the world. Ghana is an important market for Boston companies like American Tower that are helping to build the country’s infrastructure.
