How to Apply for a Ghana Visa in Atlanta

Atlanta has a population of over 6 million people, making it the 9th most populous metropolitan area in the United States.  Atlanta is the capital of Georgia, which is the 8th most populous of the 50 states.  The city and surrounding area—known as the Atlanta metropolitan area—is also the commercial capital of the Southeast United States and has the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the country.  The metropolitan area includes the municipalities of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Chamblee, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Duluth, Norcross, Tucker, Lithonia, Decatur, Mableton, Clarkston, Conyers, and others.  Atlanta has become an extremely diverse and international city.  The Atlanta metropolitan area has nearly 85,000 immigrants from Sub-Saharan Africa and has one of the largest populations of West Africans in the country, including many immigrants from Ghana.  The Ghanaian community in Atlanta is represented by several nonprofit organizations such as the Ghana Council of Georgia and others representing various ethnic groups and professional networks.  People in Atlanta are forging strong ties with Ghanaians as an increasing number of tourists travel to Ghana to celebrate events such as “Year of Return” and participate in the "Beyond the Return" campaign.

Ghana is a West African nation of 31 million people that has over 100 ethnic groups speaking nearly 80 languages.  The country has 335 miles of beautiful coastline along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, and it shares a border with Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Togo.  Its land area is roughly the size of the combined area of Georgia and South Carolina.  Ghana has a proud history and rich culture that is one of the most influential on the African continent.  Led by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and icon of the Pan-Africanism Movement, this was the first country in Sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence during the era of European colonialism.  The ideals of the Pan-Africanism Movement are manifested today by the growing number of tourists traveling to Ghana from cities like Atlanta, an important center of Black American history and culture.  Atlantans and others from Georgia are traveling to Ghana to experience their cultural heritage through tours of historical sites dating back to the slave trade like Cape Coast Castle and museums like Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi memorializing the Ashanti Kingdom.  Considered by some to be the economic hub of West Africa, there are several Atlanta-based firms doing business here such as Coca-Cola, UPS, NCR, Delta Airlines, and others.
