How to Apply for a Bangladesh Visa in Atlanta

Atlanta has a population of over 6 million people, making it the 9th most populous metropolitan area in the United States.  Atlanta is the capital of Georgia, which is the 8th most populous of the 50 states.  The city and surrounding area—known as Metro Atlanta—is also the commercial capital of the Southeast United States.  The metro area includes the municipalities of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Duluth, John's Creek, Norcross, Tucker, Decatur, and others.  Atlanta is a diverse and international city that in recent years has attracted a growing number of immigrants from South Asia, including newcomers from Bangladesh.  Metro Atlanta is now home to nearly 10,000 Bangladeshi people and there are even a handful of Bangladesh restaurants and grocery stores selling halal foods.  There are also community organizations such as mosques and temples that uphold the country’s Islamic and Hindu traditions, along with social organizations like the Bangladesh Association of Georgia.  Bangladesh is not on the radar for most local Atlantans as a tourist destination, however, the country is a major manufacturer of textiles and exports billions of dollars of garments to the United States each year, so Metro Atlanta businesspeople will find opportunities here.

Bangladesh is a South Asian country located between India and Myanmar, with 440 miles of coastline along the Bay of Bengal.  The land size of Bangladesh is only slightly smaller than Georgia's, but its population of 165 million residents is over 15 times larger than the Peach State, making this one of the densest countries on the planet.  Although 98% of the population are Bengali people and speak the Bengali language, English is understood by the county’s elite and middle class.  Dhaka is the capital and economic center of Bangladesh where most business visitors to the country will spend their time since many of the top apparel companies are based here.  Chittagong is the second-largest city in Bangladesh and also serves as a major economic driver of the country.  Chittagong is home to one of South Asia’s largest ports and has several export processing zones cranking out consumer and industrial products for the global economy.  Although the country does have interesting historical sites and natural beauty, such as its mangrove forests and beaches along Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh is not a conventional tourist destination.  The real charm of Bangladesh comes from the energy and vibrancy of its people, who are sure to want to engage and make friends with visitors from Atlanta.

  • U.S. citizens of Bangladesh origin and their spouse and children are eligible for the NVR endorsement (NVR = No Visa Required).  This seal is issued inside one of the pages of your American passport by the Bangladesh embassy.  Please check the embassy website for more information: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC - Instruction and Requirement for NVR (No Visa Required) (bdembassyusa.org)
  • For those travelers concerned about their health and wanting to learn about the recommended medicines and vaccines for travel to Bangladesh, please check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website as follows: Bangladesh - Traveler view | Travelers' Health | CDC
